What is digital printing – and how is it different to litho?
Digital printing is a method of printing that enables us to print directly to one of our four state-of-the-art, full-colour digital printers from your desktop publishing (or other type of digital) file. The information within the file is translated by the computer into a format that is read by our printers, who use data to produce your product. We can print onto a wide range of materials and many different formats – from small business cards to large posters.
Unlike litho (lithography) printing, this process does not require the image to be transferred onto a printing plate before it is printed. With this in mind, we can produce high-quality, customised products for you within a very fast turnaround time. Digital printing is therefore well suited to smaller runs (from 1 to 1,000 copies) that would be too expensive to print on a conventional press – but we can also print fast and efficiently enough to make longer runs worthwhile.
This way of printing is also very flexible – if, for example, you need to make any changes to your product, we can simply adjust your printed proof before we start the full print run.
Is it sustainable?
As printing plates do not need to be created for each new digital printing job, this type of printing process produces considerably less waste material than conventional printing methods. Furthermore, our paper suppliers are FSC-certified, which means their paper is from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources.
